However, the National Universities Commission (NUC) has disclosed that Nigeria presently has forty Federal Universities, forty-four state Universities, and seventy-two Private Universities.

The current Nigerian national educational system is popularly called the 6-3-3-4 system of education. Under this system of education, a child is expected to spend six years in primary school, six years in secondary school and, at least, four years in tertiary institutions. The system was introduced to correct some perceived defect in the former system where a student spends about five years in secondary school and two years for higher school (A-level).

At the end of the senior secondary school, a student can proceed to any tertiary institution of their choice, be it a Polytechnic, university, college of education or college of technology. The years of study in these institution ranges from four to six years depending on their course. In the case of a college of education, it lasts for three years. The Polytechnic is separated into ordinary and higher national diplomats, each lasting for two years and a year of compulsory industrial attachment in between.

1) University of Lagos (UNILAG)
Unilag is a very popular federal university which has a reputable record in the past and present day.
Located in Lagos state and was established 1962.
school fees ranges from 14,500 – 63,500.

2) Federal University of technology (FUTA)
This is a federal university that produces graduates with technological potentials. It’s said to be the eight best universities in Nigeria.
It’s located in Akure, Ondo state and it’s school fees ranges between 13,500 – 51,500

3) National open university of Nigeria (NOUN)
National open university of Nigeria is located at Victoria island and was established in the year 1983
School fees range 32,550 – 41,000

4) Feferal university of technology (FUTA)
Located in Owerri, Imo state.
School fees range 39,300 – 61,340

5) University of Benin (UNIBEN)
Located in Benin city, Edo state.
School fees range 50,000 – 70,000. However you’ll have to pay an acceptance fee which would amount to 60, 000.

6) Usman dan fodio university (UDUSOK)
Udusok is located in sokoto and has an average that ranges from 96,000 – 220,000

Located in Calabar, Cross rivers state.
